Where To Eat In Loreto: A Local Food Guide
One thing is for sure, if you’re wondering where to eat in Loreto, you won’t suffer for lack of choices. There are many great authentic restaurants, and I was surprised at the number of restaurants in Loreto for a place so small. I had many great meals there, and here were my favorite selections for where to eat in Loreto.
Where To Eat In Loreto: A Local Food Guide
Breakfast Restaurants In Loreto
1. El Andador Café
El Andador Café had my favorite breakfast in Loreto. They had many choices, and I love the stuffed poblano I had for breakfast. It came with a fried egg on a tortilla. They also had great cappuccinos and jugo verde. They also serve lunch and dinner, but I ran out of time to try them for these meals.
2. Café Olé
Café Olé seemed to be a favorite of many locals and expats. It’s on the pedestrian street, and you can sit outside and people watch. It’s a very casual spot where you order at the counter and pick a table. I had the shrimp omelette and freshly squeezed mango juice. The coffee wasn’t very strong, so I’d recommend getting that elsewhere.
3. Pan que Pan
Pan que Pan gets the award for the cutest place to eat in Loreto. I ate there on my last morning, and I got an omelette for breakfast, and an incredible club sandwich to go on their homemade bread for lunch on the airplane. If you’re a bread lover, you can buy the fresh bread they bake every day.
Lunch and Dinner Restaurants In Loreto
1. Romanita Baja Kitchen
If you’re looking for a place to eat in Loreto that’s more upscale, then Romanita Baja Kitchen is the place for you. They specialize in steaks and seafood, and they serve wonderful cocktails and food. Pricing is closer to what you would spend in the US, but I really enjoyed the passion fruit cocktail and the sea bass over a spinach salad.
2. Los Olivos at the Hotel La Misíon de Loreto
Los Olivos was my absolute favorite place to eat in Loreto. The view of the Malecon from the balcony was stunning, and the food was even more so. Loreto is one of the few spots where you can find chocolate clams, and Los Olivos had my favorite version. I also loved their shrimp Caesar salad, although next time I’d get the dressing on the side.
Don’t miss the passion fruit margarita and the fish with capers and lemon. The clam cream soup was also quite good. They also serve breakfast, but I ran out of time to try it.
3.Mezzaluna
Mezzaluna, a Uruguayan/Italian restaurant, was phenomenal. They had excellent pizza and homemade pasta. I really enjoyed the handmade ravioli. They have a deck for sitting outside and people watching. I didn’t get to try the empanadas, but they are also supposed to be excellent.
4.La Brisa
I really enjoyed La Brisa restaurant in Loreto. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the view was stunning. I had the ceviche and the queso fundido. The gelato was also very good. They are also known for having great breakfast and pizza.
5. BuenaVida Restaurant
If you’re looking for a place to eat in Loreto that is seafood based, look no further than BuenaVida Restaurant. The seafood here was excellent. We had the chocolate clams, the shrimp tostada, and the shrimp and steak taco. This is a palapa restaurant that the locals love. The service and drinks were great.
6. La Poblanita
If you’re looking for truly authentic Mexican food in Loreto that tastes like someone’s grandmother made it, go to La Poblanita. Across the street from the Super Ley grocery store, I had the pumpkin seed enchiladas, and they were fantastic. This might have been the best priced food I had in Loreto. They serve breakfast as well which I didn’t have time to try.
Dessert in Loreto
1. La Michoacana Ice Cream
The Mexican paletas were so good here, that I went here almost every day. The flavors aren’t labeled, so you have to ask a bit to know what you are getting, but they were phenomenal. They have ice cream as well as popsicles.
